My Story

Tom – Founder & Lead Practitioner, Restore Voice Coaching

I began my musical journey as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, where I had the privilege of performing in a wide range of services, recordings, and special occasions. This early experience laid the foundation for my professional training at the Royal Northern College of Music, where I studied in the School of Vocal and Opera Studies.

Following my studies, I built a career as a professional opera singer, performing across the UK and internationally with companies including English National Opera and Longborough Festival Opera. Highlights include performing in the Olivier Award-winning production of La Bohème with OperaUpClose, among many other productions.
Throughout my performing career, I developed a deep understanding of voice, character, presentation, and performance-related anxiety—knowledge that now underpins my coaching practice.

I have over twenty years of experience teaching singing, both privately and in schools, and I remain committed to continually developing my knowledge and skills. My journey led me into the field of Vocal Health Education, where I have gained qualifications in Vocal Massage Therapy, Vocal Health First Aid and as a Vocal Habilitation Professional (with distinction). I have also completed training in Healthy Spoken Voice and am currently studying techniques such as the Accent Method.

I currently work as a deputy singing teacher at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and teach in two independent schools, alongside my private practice.

My interest in vocal health has also led me to practices such as Qigong, which emphasises freedom through the release of unnecessary tension—an approach that closely aligns with healthy voice use. I am also exploring the role of counselling in supporting singers and performers.

Alongside my teaching and coaching, I continue to perform professionally. Recent work includes productions of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Verdi’s Macbeth. I have recorded with the award-winning ensemble VOCES8 on their album Winter and perform with London Voices on major film and game soundtracks, including Dune: Part Two, The Fantastic Four, The First Omen, and Spider-Man 2. I have also toured live concert performances of Home Alone, Amadeus, and music from the Final Fantasy franchise.

Through Restore Voice Coaching, I bring together this breadth of experience to help clients build confidence and freedom in their voice—whether they are singers, actors, speakers, professionals, or individuals preparing for important life moments such as presentations or speeches.

I believe that freedom of speech is not only about what we say, but our ability to say it with clarity, confidence, and ease.

If this resonates with you, I would be delighted to support you on your journey back to vocal freedom.
